Salinas de Cádiz

Organic Virgin Sea Salt and Fleur de Sel from Salinas de Cádiz

Founded in 2020 with its brand Dama Blanca, Salinas de Cádiz is a family project dedicated to producing and selling unrefined organic virgin sea salt and fleur de sel. Hand-harvested using 100% artisanal methods in the marshes of the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park and dried by the sun and the levante and poniente winds, preserving over 3,000 years of history and salt-making tradition.

Organic virgin
sea salt
fleur de sel 150g / 350g

These are very fine crystals; for this reason, they are not used to dissolve in a liquid, but rather to enhance flavour. We recommend applying them directly to freshly cooked dishes or cold preparations.

Dissolves very quickly, making it ideal for seasoning delicate foods that will not be cooked, always with the aim of “rounding out” the desired flavour without a high salt concentration.

Our Mission

Our mission is to bring the traditional salt pans of Cádiz back to life and inspire households and chefs to enjoy the authentic taste of the sea. We harvest our organic fleur de sel and virgin sea salt by hand in the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park: a living salt, rich in essential minerals and sun-dried, without a single additive or chemical process.

Biodiversity

Artisanal salt pans are among the few places in the world where human work nurtures and multiplies life. Our traditional estuaries and crystallisation ponds act as a natural refuge in the Bay of Cádiz—a protected wetland where dozens of fish and wader species find the ideal home to feed, nest, and breed in the wild.

Research

Committed to the future of the salt pans

We work to ensure that the salt-making tradition remains part of our future. That is why we collaborate on various initiatives aimed at protecting this heritage and improving working conditions for those who keep the craft alive.

Innovation at the service of the salt-making craft

We collaborate with the University of Cádiz (UCA) on the design and development of new tools for salt workers, making them more sustainable, ergonomic, lightweight, and efficient. The goal is to ease daily work and adapt traditional tools to modern needs without losing the essence of the craft.

Commitment to our wetlands

We also collaborate with SALARTE, making a financial contribution for every container we sell, directly supporting research projects, wetland conservation, and the recovery of traditional salt-making crafts.

Because every container of Salinas de Cádiz carries not only the salt of our land: it also helps care for the environment, preserve a unique landscape, and keep alive a craft that is part of our heritage.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer the key questions about the origin of our Fleur de Sel, the mineral purity of the Bay of Cádiz, and our organic commitment.

View all questions →
What distinguishes fleur de sel and virgin sea salt from common table salt?

Unlike refined table salt, which undergoes high-temperature chemical processes and contains anti-caking additives (E-535), our fleur de sel and virgin sea salt are harvested by hand using 100% artisanal methods and sun-dried in the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park, keeping their trace elements intact (magnesium, calcium, potassium and natural iodine).

How is salt harvested in the marshes of Salinas de Cádiz?

Atlantic water enters with the spring tides and flows through a circuit of traditional ponds where the sun and the levante wind concentrate the brine. Fleur de sel is gathered by hand at sunset from the surface before it sinks to the bottom, while virgin salt crystallises on the clay bed, preserving 3,000 years of history.

Why is Dama Blanca salt 100% organic, with no additives or anti-caking agents?

Our salt holds CAAE organic certification (European Union). The natural labyrinth of marshes and halophytic vegetation acts as a purifying biofilter that settles and retains any impurity. Furthermore, we do not add any kind of chemical agent, anti-caking agent or artificial whitener.

How does consuming artisanal sea salt help conserve biodiversity?

Artisanal salt pans are an ecosystem where human work multiplies life. Keeping the traditional ponds active creates the ideal refuge for feeding and breeding waterbirds such as the pied avocet, the black-winged stilt and the Kentish plover. Furthermore, in April and May we halt the harvest to respect the nesting season.
