MOIST UNREFINED SEA SALT

📍 CÁDIZ · NO INDUSTRIAL THERMAL DRYING

Benefits of natural Atlantic moisture

The wet, undried virgin sea salt of Dama Blanca represents the purest and biologically active state in which this mineral can be consumed. After being harvested by hand by Master Salinero in the clay crystallizers of Puerto Real, salt is not subjected to chemical washing or thermal drying in industrial furnaces at high temperatures.

Instead, the salt simply passively drains on traditional outdoor wood tables. This process allows the glass to retain its original microlayer of “mother liquor” (concentrated Atlantic seawater).

This residual humidity (8% to 12%) keeps the salt biologically active, providing it with a slightly unctuous texture to the touch and a velvety salinity that gradually dissolves in the palate without the punching aggressiveness of refined sodium chloride.

trace elements Preserved

By avoiding thermal refining and chemical washing, Dama Blanca keeps all the original Atlantic mineralization intact, preserving an optimal density of magnesium, potassium, calcium and organic iodine:

Component / Property Dama Blanca moist salt Common Industrial Refined Salt
Residual humidity 8%–12% (Atlantic mother liquor) Virtually 0% (Forced thermal drying)
Magnesium (Mg) 0.85% (Soluble naturally) Negligible traces (< 0.05%)
Iodine and trace elements Preserved in its pure organic state Eliminated (synthetically added KIO3)
Additives (E-535 Ferrocyanide) 0% (Total absence guaranteed) Common additive used to prevent caking
Taste on the palate Soft, nuanced and velvety salinity Strong, linear and immediate salinity

Storage tips

Due to its active humidity and the total absence of synthetic anti-caking agents, wet sea salt requires simple storage patterns:

CARE 01

Glass or Ceramic

Avoid metal containers. The active moisture oxide saline covers and metal containers. Use glass or ceramic jars.

Natural packaging
CARE 02

Cool surroundings

Store in a fresh place with the well-closed jar with its natural cork cap to protect the Atlantic moisture.

Ceramic grinding

To grind it, use mills with ceramic mechanisms specially designed for wet salt, or gently crush it with your fingers.

Frequently asked questions about moist salt

Why does moist sea salt tend to compact in the jar?

The compaction is the most accurate test of the purity and nature of the product. By not containing synthetic anti-caking agents (E-535), the crystals retain their original Atlantic hygroscopic property.

Can wet sea salt be used in conventional steel grinders?

Steel grinding mechanisms are not recommended because sea moisture oxidizes the metal. It is best to use grinders with ceramic mechanisms or crumble the crystals gently with your fingers.

What is the difference between organic iodine and synthetic iodine added?

The Dama Blanca's iodine comes from the phytoplankton of the Cádiz tidal ponds and resists the heat of the cooking. Commercial salts are artificially sprayed with chemical potassium iodate that evaporates with fire.
